Whilst completing his studies toward a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (MEng) in the Biomedical sphere he felt the Lord challenging him to take a step of faith and explore full time ministry. After completing his MEng, He registered for a Bachelor of Theology (BTh) through UNISA and worked as a ministries coordinator at St John’s Presbyterian in Middelburg, working primarily in the space of youth and children’s ministry, worship and missions. Attending the discernment conference of the UPCSA in 2016, the Ministry Committee of the General Assembly discerned that there was a call on his life to enter the ordained ministry of Word and Sacrament. Graduating from his BTh at the end of 2016, he was sent to Kroonstad in the Free State and entered into a year of Post Academic Training (PAT). Toward the end of the year, he received and accepted a call from Trinity Presbyterian Church in Edenvale. Iain joined the Trinity ministry team in 2018, being ordained and inducted on the 15th of March.
Iain has a passion for missional minded communities, family ministry and servant hearted leadership. He loves Jesus and wants to see others become lovers of Jesus and experience the love of Jesus in real, tangible ways. He believes that people can experience Jesus’ love when we serve them and so as much as he is able, with Jesus’ help, he tries to serve others and love unconditionally.
Iain has been married to Caryn since May 2015. Together they have two daughters: Ella, who was born in 2020 (during the Covid-19 Pandemic), and Leah, who was born in 2022.
Iain is an active person who enjoys running, sports and surfing whenever the opportunity arises. In his leisure time he strums on his guitar, reads and goes for walks/hikes or watches a movie with Caryn.
